HOW MANY MCC ARE LEFT?

There are 2,098 MCC left on the road in the UK (i.e. with valid road tax). There are a further 3,419 MCC that are currently SORNED.

The total number of MCC was highest during 2004 Q4 (17,115). The number taxed topped out in 2004 Q4 and the total SORNed was at its maximum during 2021 Q4.

Since the total peaked, some 11,598 (68%) MCC have been scrapped or exported.

During 2022 Q4 the number of MCC that were off the road (SORN) exceeded the number that were licensed for the first time. This could indicate the owners are reluctant to sell or scrap their car as they view them as a potential future classic.

In the last 10 years the total number of MCC has fallen by 6,538. Licensed models have fallen by 8,243 and the SORNed total has increased by 1,705.

The 5 year trend shows a total decline of 2,975 MCC models. Taxed models have declined by 2,941 and the SORNed total has fallen by 34.

62% of the remaining 5,517 MCC in the UK are currently off the road.
