HOW MANY SWM ARE LEFT?
There are 203 SWM left on the road in the UK (i.e. with valid road tax). There are a further 235 SWM that are currently SORNED.
The total number of SWM was highest during 2026 Q1 (438). The number taxed topped out in 2021 Q3 and the total SORNed was at its maximum during 2025 Q1.
Since the total peaked, some 10 (2%) SWM have been scrapped or exported.
During 2024 Q4 the number of SWM that were off the road (SORN) exceeded the number that were licensed for the first time. This could indicate the owners are reluctant to sell or scrap their car as they view them as a potential future classic.
In the last 10 years the total number of SWM has gained 432. Licensed models have increased by 197 and the SORNed total has increased by 235.
The 5 year trend shows an overall increase of 52 SWM models. Taxed models have declined by 90 and the SORNed total has increased by 142.
48% of the surviving 438 SWM in the UK are still on the road.
