HOW MANY PROTON ARE LEFT?

There are 1,533 PROTON left on the road in the UK (i.e. with valid road tax). There are a further 2,793 PROTON that are currently SORNED.

The total number of PROTON was highest during 2000 Q4 (97,480). The number taxed topped out in 2000 Q4 and the total SORNed was at its maximum during 2021 Q1.

Since the total peaked, some 93,154 (96%) PROTON have been scrapped or exported.

During 2023 Q1 the number of PROTON that were off the road (SORN) exceeded the number that were licensed for the first time. This could indicate the owners are reluctant to sell or scrap their car as they view them as a potential future classic.

In the last 10 years the total number of PROTON has fallen by 12,379. Licensed models have fallen by 13,191 and the SORNed total has increased by 812.

The 5 year trend shows a total decline of 4,050 PROTON models. Taxed models have declined by 3,855 and the SORNed total has fallen by 195.

65% of the remaining 4,326 PROTON in the UK are currently off the road.
